Crusaders crushed

Something almost unbelievable has happened in the Super 14 this morning. The Crusaders suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Chiefs in Hamilton. The North Islanders were 18-0 up at half-time and despite a scoreless second half went on to win 18-5.

Richie Maccaw, one of the world's best fetcher-flankers, and the rest of the Saders forwards, were bullied at the breakdown, while the backs were let down by poor handling.

Steven Donald, who has had a quiet, if not poor season, played out of his socks today, both on attack and defence, and also kicked a conversion and two penalties.

The first half tries came from Sitivini Sivivatu and Simms Davison, while Andrew Ellis touched down for the Crusaders' only points.

The result means the Sharks will narrow the gap with the Crusaders to only two points if they get a bonus point win over the Brumbies tomorrow.

The Chiefs are third on the log with 27 points, on! ly four ahead of the Stormers.
